The Cornwallis Camcorder Club took its name from the evening school
where it originated.
Back
in 1986/87 there was a group attending the evening school with our new
camcorders in hand these were new toys to us, we went along to try and learn how
to get the most out of our camcorders and how to edit the video and other
related subjects. Then at the beginning of one term the tutor failed to attend.
Two of the longest attending students Frank Bassett and Rod Jones were asked by
the school if they would take over the class until a new tutor could be found,
this never happened and the class was to close. Frank and Rod had the idea of
starting a club within the school with around 30 class members ranging in age
from 16 to 65 and both male and female all wanting to carry on with the class
this went well for one term then came a change of school policy the club was now
well under way mainly due to a feature in our county paper that brought in lots
of new members now needed a new venue we moved to the nearby village of Loose in
to the Church hall. Frank & Rod returned to the school as tutors for the next few
years giving us a good supply of new club members each term we soon outgrew the
hall and moved on to St Johns Ambulance hall in Maidstone at this time with over
forty members, car parking soon became a problem and our last move to the venue we
are at now in Maidstone solved this.
We are now a smaller enthusiastic group of amateurs interested in all aspects of
video and film making we enjoy making club projects we hold in house and inter
club competitions also and make many videos for other groups including amateur
dramatic groups dance troupes also shows at our local Hazlet Theatre and play/toddler clubs.
We are always looking for new members if you are new to this hobby and would like
some help with using your camcorder or how to edit some footage you have shot
or add a sound track and your own voice over contact us now. Or if you can give us
some of your knowledge we would also like to hear from you.
